Labor Day was created to recognize the achievements of American workers and the great prosperity they have brought to this country. Although Labor Day is meant as a “thank you” to all working Americans, usually celebrated with barbecues, parades, and most importantly, a paid vacation day, the long Labor Day Weekend is also a good time of year to catch up on any work-related medical needs you need to renew.

The Department of Transportation requires all workers in the following industries to receive a DoT physical:

    • Aviation
    • Commercial Motor Carriers
    • Pipeline
    • Railroads
    • Transit

All workers in these industries are considered “safety-sensitive employees,” and are subject to certain standards, regulations, and conditions that other workers are not.

But because these workers often work difficult hours, it’s hard to schedule doctor’s appointments to accommodate their schedules, as 29% of doctors’ offices don’t offer after-hours care, let alone on Labor Day when most offices are closed.

Urgent care facilities are able to take care of these physicals during hours that normally aren’t available at your primary care physician’s office or other medical centers. They also operate on a walk-in basis, so you don’t have to plan your entire day around your trip, you can stop in whenever it’s convenient for you. However, especially for DoT physicals, it is recommended that you call ahead to make sure a physician is in when you want to come by.

Two thirds of urgent care locations have a mix of physicians, physician assistants, and nurse practitioners on-site at all times. Here at Phoenix Urgent Care, all of our physicians are DoT-certified and able to perform your physical quickly and affordably.

At an urgent care clinic, you will rarely need to wait more than 15 minutes to be seen by a medical professional, and about 80% of patients are seen within an hour.

Urgent medical centers are found nationwide at about 6,800 locations, so it’s easy to find one near you. The Phoenix Urgent Care Center is open from 8 a.m. to 8 p.m. every day of the week, year-round.

If you have any questions regarding what your Phoenix DoT physical entails, what you should bring, or any other questions about our facilities in general, do not hesitate to give us a call during our business hours at 602.687.7858.
